Can anyone help with a technical article covering the removal and replacement of the speedometer driven gear/shaft assembly. Does the assembly come out when the large nut (where the speedo cable screw onto) is backed out?

The gear on the side that you are refering to is the driven gear, The drive gear is pressed on the U joint yoke. Actually the gears were sold as atched pairs and both were to be replaced together If you are attepting to change the driven gear for one with a different number of teeth it will not work.
And yes, loosen and remove the big nut and the large fitting will screw out and the gear is permentally attached to it.

Thank you for your help. For my clarification, when reinstalling the new gear assembly, does it just screw back in, or does it require alignment?
