Seasons Greetings! Well, my first hand-me-down car was a 54 Chevy Bel Air, turquoise and white. I thought it was the best thing since puberty. Anyway, at 63, I'm looking to buy one again - not a mechanic - looking for my turn-key dream car. Guess I would like to talk about what I can expect to pay. I'm guessing somewhere between 5 to 20 thousand. Any wisdom here tonight?

Mike, I called your friend, Neil, and he isn't interested in selling his 54. Thanks for the lead though. Dave

Chev54, For a price on a real nice post 2 door around $10,000 + would be ball park.A hardtop will bring more money - I prefer the post as it has fewer air and water leaks....and a mor solid feeling car.

Thanks Chevgene. When you say post, you mean two door, right? Well, so far I have found two cherry standard shifts which I really don't want - powerglide is what I'm after. The dealer in Iowa has the one I want, but it REALLY falls into your 10,000.00 ++++ side. lol Thanks for responding - Dave

You guys need to make a trip out here to The Lone Star State for a look at some nice rust free 53 and 54 Chevrolets. I know a guy that is a charter member in the LSR Region that has a nice Turquoise and Ivory 54 Belair Ht with powerglide, it isn't a show car but not far from it. He drives it to all the club meetings and tours he was in Branson on the SST in April this year and to the Pettite Jean Arkansas Swap meet.
If you would like I will ask him if you could call him about it. I have never known him to have a car that he won't trade or sell for a fair price. send me a private message with a phone number where you can be reached , he does not do the internet bit. I won't give out his number or name without his permission.

Thanks to Tom, Mike, Chev Nut and Mr. Mack for their thoughtfulness and time helping me with my happy problem! Good News! I have decided to take the plunge and do my bit to brighten Duffy's Holiday Season - yep, I made a deposit on the 1954 Chevy Bel Air on their website. YEA! Sooo, if you hear of a super clean, running great, original with new interior, turquoise and white 54 Chevy Bel Air for sale cheap in Florida, please DON'T TELL ME!! I'll return with the good news when my Chev arrives before Christmas.

I think the most important part of any plunge like you are taking is the FUN part! ...congratulations and don't get too upset if you find a glitch or two, after all most of the car is 50 years old.
I remember when my dad bought a brand new 53 V/8 Dodge the day before we were scheduled to drive from west Texas all the way to South Carolina and we had to postpone the trip when we developed a bad oil leak about 200 miles out from home and had to wait overnight for a oil filter mount adapter to be bussed in from Fort Worth, My mom was stressed out and Dad kept saying, don't worry, Mack and I will switch out and we will just drive a little faster (I was 15 with no driver's experiance in the high powered Dodge!)... For some reason that didn't calm my Mom down very well.
