Is this mounted on the firewall of a 34 Phaeton?
Thanks Rory!

I cannot say, but it doesn't appear to have any holes large enough for rivets to go thru. It may have tiny holes in the corners for getting nailed to floor or seat riser.???

Hopefully one of the Australians will chip in with correct answer.

Although I am familiar with that plate this one seems a bit odd. First off the series is not stamped on it. Secondly the chassis number is too long unless they were still using this plate some years later although I cant recall seeing it after 1936. Another thing is that it does not start with a letter of the alphabet. They were usually attached either on the seat riser, just in front of the drivers seat or on the side of the cowl. If on the cowl the holes are larger as they were screwed on with self tappers.

They must have changed plate design before the 37 - 39 commercial plates I have seen, I think the sedan and truck plates are the same for each year though.
I am not at home until the end of the month so cannot check.

I have quite a few of these without any series stamped in, and left blank. The ones with chassis numbers only are 1060001 and 107256 , neither with a series or Letter prefix. if this is for your 1934 , it should be nailed to the front seat frame, vertical timber riser , on the Right hand side of the seat,

The Series area came in use in 1929 on brass chassis plates .Very close to the amalgamation of HMMB and GM-A in 1931,The General Motors (AUST) was changed, so all 1932 and on should say General Motors Holdens LTD . Half way through 1931 and previous years will say General motors (AUST) PTY LTD

I have all General Motors (AUST) PTY LTD plates with the Prefix B , S , P , with smaller 3 and 4 number chassis numbers. Missing an A and an M Prefix for my collection

In the "Holden" range the "B , S , M , A" was Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide as the last character in the Vin but I dont remember a "P".
If 1st stamp in Vin was a "C" meant commercial especially "HQ to WB".

Tony, the P chassis number is probably from 1928, P1972. Is. The chassis number, and I purchased it from a seller in WA.

In that case there may have been a plant in Perth which would make sense as they wouldnt be likely to transport that many new vehicles from Adelaide to West Aus.
