Here is an easy one: What size are the transmission bolts that bolt the transmission to the rear mount at the crossmember? I've tried 3/8 fine thread but they keep pulling out when I get them tight.

Do you mean the 2 bolts that go thru the hole in the crossmember (53 &54) and thry the rubber mount then screw into the tailpiece of the transmission? Mine are whatever size that takes a 5/8" socket. The last time I took the transmission out I couldn't get the socket on the bolts, and had to unbolt the steel bracket the rubber rides in from the crossmember I also unbolted the crossmember pulled it and straightened it to where the bolt heads were accessable, I really didn't like that deal either.

I should have been clearer. This is on a 51sdl with a 3 speed. It is the 2 bolts that go into the tail shaft via the rubber mount that is bolted to the crossmember.

Same place, just a different year and somewhat of a difference in mounts

If they thread into a casting they will be coarse-if fastened into a nut, SAE.

Thanks Gene; The bolts fit a little snug because it is a new mount and had rubber built up in the holes. That is why I thought the holes were 3/8 diameter.
