Ok they did not go through all the trouble to make these lock washers without a specific way to install them. Until I had washed and glass beaded them I did not see the serrations on one side and the grooves on the other. Which side goes to the nut or bolt head they are used on both nuts and bolts. I am thinking the serrations go down with the grooves to the nut or bolt.
Thanks The Honer

What type of lock washer are you referring to? I don't think I've ever seen one that was side specific. Lock Washers

They are used on both the body to frame bolts & nuts also where the torque tube gear housing bolts to the rear end housing and other places. I have more than one size washer some 3/8 ,7/16,5/16 they are thick by today's standards.

I don't have a clue. Can you post a picture of one? Do you see it here?

They are also on the u-bolts that bolt the leaf springs to the rear end. I used brass shim stock to tighten the casting that bolt on the rear end housing that the u-bolts,bolt to the springs. Both the castings and the housing had wear on them.I used .005 shims and I can still move them when I torque the bolts, did away with the flat head screws. I have pics but can,t copy and paste for some reason.

We have those wedge lock washers at work they are the best locking washer you will find, at 7500 RPMs for 24 hrs. or 9500 RPMs for 500 miles that is what you want. But these washers off of my 37 are used in multiple places, some can't be reused because the have cracks in them. I just thought someone here would have seen them before. And would know the proper way they went on.

Those look like split lock washers. They work by the edge on both sides of the split digging into the two sides of the joint and preventing the fastener from loosening up. I think the marks are just manufacturing marks. Either way up should work. The exception to re-using them is if the metal is fatigued enough that the split is no longer offset they should be replaced. <CLICK>

I don't know how to find your photos but I have seen the type you describe and I don't know which side is to be used to the bolt.
