As I attempt to reassemble my 51 SDL from boxes, sometimes I don't remember where some of the parts attach. This is the case with the front end of the clutch return spring. If I attach it to the body mount bracket on the frame it seems to loose and if I stretch it out to the small hole on the inside of the frame it's to tight. So I guess my question is where does the front of the spring attach? Am I missing a part here, or is my spring beyond it's prime?

There is a small hole in the frame, almost straight ahead of the clutch rod, the spring hooks into an elongated "S" hook that hooks into the hole in the frame, the "S" hook looks to be made of a heavy steel wire about like clothline wire or an 1/8" welding rod.
Hope this picture helps:

Thanks for the quick reply MR. MACK...I saw an "S" shaped wire like your talking about in one of the boxes today. Now I kind of remember taking it off back about 15+years ago (it was caked with grease and grime) Now I have a mission for Tuesday. Thanks again.
