My question is about taking the play out of my steering. I have new bushings in it and have adjusted where I can but I still hsve 1" of play in the steering. All of the front end joints are tight. Does any one have a remedy to this? Thanks Lewis McFadden

Lewis there is a VCCA member on this site from Europe who posted a thread years ago about this subject. He turned the steering shaft 180 degrees and made a new off-set bushing on his lathe to correct the problem. Maybe he will see this and repost it with all the photos of the work he did again.

I cured the play in my trucks steering box by making a full sector shaft length eccentric bush.I can now get rid of practically any play between the steering column shaft worm gear & the sector gear, and currently have only 1/2" freeplay at the steering wheel rim.
If you want to know what I did to fix my steering box, send me a PM,and I'll try and explain it to you.

I can vouch for what CJP'29 said about his steering box repair. He did a couple for me, and they are excellent.

Cheers

Some say "Street is neat". I prefer "1928 is great"

I have documented my 45 years with a 1928 Chev Tourer, from 1973 to 2018, and regulary add other items that I hope are of interest to others. Your comments are most welcome. The story of the Red Chev can be viewed at http://my28chev.blogspot.com/
