I am new to the forum and to my 1941 Master Deluxe. Bought my driver quality car, drove it twice, then started to tear things apart to make it right. I pulled the hood so I can yank the motor and replace all of the seals. While I'm at it though, I want to clean up the hood hinges and replace the springs (don't like the look of the broom handle holding up the hood). I am trying to determine how I should treat the hinges and springs. They are currently coated in flaking body color paint (car was repainted in 1959). I have seen pictures of them body color, semi-gloss black, and natural. What is correct? I am making this a nice driver, not a show car, but there is no point not making things correct while I'm at it. Also, can anybody tell me how to get a judging guide so that I can make things correct as I go? Thank You all, looking forward to this new toy, it is a blast to drive.

MM,

a. If you want to take the engine out, it is easier to take the whole front end off. Maybe you know that but you just mentioned the hood.

b. The hinges are natural (sort of gray) and the hinge brackets are body color. I think that is right. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

c. The judging rules can be had right here on the VCCA site. Where I don't remember. Someone will tell us.

d. As to getting everything in original order, that is a tough job and an expensive one. Owing to your car being a lowly Master Deluxe maybe you should just use it as a daily driver or hook a one-horse turning-plow to it. Being a MD it is hardly worth restoring. Well, Mike Buller would think so but that is Mike. He is super patient and determined and excellent at what he does. He's doing a MD right now. He's a little strange. Agrin

e. I am in Eastern NC also and would be willing to share experience and love for the 41. I have a few parts as well.

Best,
Charlie computer

Welcome to the forum. Take some of Charlies comments with a grain of salt. Do enjoy his posts. Don't get him started on Fultuns or Fleetliners. But he does know his 41's.

Thanks guys.

I've started with the hood, but do plan to take the whole front end off. Looks like just a few more bolts.

I have the repair manual and it is somewhat helpful, but tough to follow how exactly the transmission will pull away from the torque tube. I want to pull the trans with the motor as it is also leaking everywhere.

I'm with you in that I don't the car is worth taking to judging level. I really just want a very nice driver to cruise. I just want to make the items I touch correct while I'm at it. Doesn't make any sense to pull things apart and not finish them correctly while I'm at it.

The judges are nothing to worry about it's Those Hopped Up Street Rodders you have to watch out for.

Guide is on homepage under members services/meets & activities.
