I bought one of these yesterday and should get it home in a week or 2, after the check clears.

Description: you might call it barn fresh, it's all original, 44,000 miles, has spent a good share of its life in a heated garage. Looks pretty good, interior is a bit rough as you'd expect.

Although it seems to run OK, it got warm just sitting there, on a 40 degree day. Another post here mentions rust/scale in the block, and that would not be surprising.

I'm thinking that it might be a good idea to tear the engine down right off the bat to clean out the water jacket and the crankcase. I'm sure the latter is filthy and sludged.

The roof has a big leather square that isn't in very good shape. I'd like to be able to drive the car and take it to some shows where it would sit outside overnight and perhaps be subjected to rain. How should this be sealed up?

If I elect to begin restoration, where should I start? For me personally, I'm far less interested in having the car perfect and being a trailer queen than being able to drive and enjoy it a bit.

Although it'll be inside, it won't be in a heated area. Any thoughts on preservation?

Also, why the "Confederate" moniker?

TIA: <<Jim>>

Welcome to Chevy Chatter!

"Confederate" is the series for the 1932 model year. Each year was a different series. For example, 1929 was "International", 1930 was "Universal", 1931 was Independence" and so on.

Once I was working on a 1 cyl. engine that was real rusty and they said to put in muratic acid. I did and it foamed and boiled a lot but sure cleaned things up. Would that work in a radiator and block?

If your 1932 coupe is all original with only 44,000 miles on it, if the paint is still in good condition, you should probably just tidy it up, and fix the mechanical problems, Low milage cars are termed as survivors, and can be worth more in that condition.

Hello jdunmyer,
About your roof. There are some posts discussing this issue. Look for '1932 Chevrolet Coupe Roof Material' post #244038-05/28/12 08:01PM. That may help you.

The other option is to work out what you have , and what parts you still need, and then list them in the wanted forum below
