I know that spare mounted mirrors are pretty worthless because I had them on another roadster. I wondering if any of you know what originals should sell for, if I can find a set. I like the way they look and don't want to put non original items on the car. Lastly does anyone know of an available pair?

Did I see on here a while back that someone was going to reproduce the Trico Sidemount Mirrors? Is that project still in the works?

I would disagree with anyone that says a Trico Mirror is worthless on the left side of a 32 roadster! I use mine all the time! I would agree with you on that the right side mirror is worthless!
I have not tried or had time to install my metal tire cover ones yet on my Landau. I would like to find the installation instructions for the metal tire tire cover version.
As to making them, there are a couple of working on trying to make them. The big problem is making the small internal parts which make the mirror work. And when you case the mirror using an original they shrink which means you need to reduces the size of all the parts. Which than means they are not strong enough for the job. I have a friend that was working on casting in MI trying to get them the correct size. I need to check in with him.
Do that help Roger?

I saw a set of tire mounted mirrors, and the right one had a taller mast so you could see it. Unfortunately, I don't know where I saw them. However, Check out these. He has several. http://www.classicaccessories.org/Peter.
My Chevy is over 70 years old and still running great. I hope I keep running cuz I just turned 81 !!

I've learned a few things here as usual. I didn't know they used metal tire covers on the 31's. I thought the originals were just strapped to the wheel/tire. When I have used them in the past I found so much vibration that they were hard to use for backing. Maybe the 31 runs smoother than my 29 Pontiac did.

Hey Bob, I think the only Trico mirrors which were available in 31 were the mirrors with a strap. I think the metal tire cover version came out in 32. But I'm not sure. I would need to look at my 31 paperwork and see what I can find.

I will also look through my literature to see if the metal tire cover version of the Trico side mount mirrors were available in 1931. Yes there is an accessory metal tire cover for 1931. I have two pair collected over the past nearly 50 years. Only ever saw one installed on a spare tire. That was on the rear spare of a '30 Model A Coupe. Owner wouldn't sell it.
Page 130-131 of the February, 1, 1932 Master Parts Price List have the "Tire Mirror" (aka Trico) with strap listed for both Independence and Confederate (1931 and 1932) models with the statement "(Use With Fabric Tire Covers)". The "Tire Mirror (Use With Metal Tire Cover)" only listed for Confederate models. Interestingly it also lists "Key, Tire Mirror Lock (Use With Metal Cover Lock) listed for both Independence and Confederate.

Thank you both, at least I am more certain of what I am looking for. Searched Hershey last year with no luck. I am sure they will be hard to find but then that gives me a reason to go to flee markets and research.
