Has anybody heard of wheel trim rings (shifting) as the wheels move and cutting the valve stems?

I just bought a new set and wonder if I need to slip some rubber hose over the valve stem to prevent this. Maybe I'm over thinking this.

Hi
I have never heard of anyone ever having a problem, mine has them and it would take a tremendous force to make them move at all.

Are you running radial tires?

That is what is causing the shifting. The wheel rim is flexing due to being too weak for radial tires, especially one that wide on a comparativly narrow wheel

years ago, i put a set of radial tires on a 67 corvette coupe that had rally wheels and Original trim rings. i too experienced rotation of the trim rings on the rim. this didn't occur with bias belted tires on the same corvette. mike

I have talked to others who have had the same issue with trim rings that had wheels with radial tires as well.

Well, they are not shifting as of yet, but I will keep an eye on it. They installed pretty tight.

I have not had other issues running radials, but thanks to all who responded.
