I am needing an interior kit for a 1949 2 door Fleetline Deluxe ( Headliner, seat covers, door panels, etc). I received an estimate from Hampton Coach ($3500 for materials) but I'd like to know if there are any other companies that offer comparable interior kits for less money. My hunch is that you get what you pay for but I want to make sure there are not other good interior suppliers that I have not considered.

Tarheal, I would check out some local upholsery shops in the area, often they can find a fabric very close to the original, I have seen some Hampton Coach materials that are a bit different from the original.

Darrell,

SMS is a great place to buy seating material. Canby, OR. Doug Pollock, owner. I presume they have a web site, etc.

They have a HUGE stock. They probably have material from the 30's thru 80's or 90's for most all cars. I wouldn't even hazard a guess; but I suppose that could amount to 10 - 20 - 30 thousand bolts of material. I've purchased some pretty rare stuff from Doug over the years. I would think seating material for your 49 Fleetline would be as easy as falling off a log. (I would imagine they'd suggest you send them a sample from your car to be certain there's a match.)

I DON'T know if they have headliner and door panel materials. Maybe; maybe not.

Of course, this is only the material. You'd have to have a local-type firm stitch it up.

Incidentally, this is original stuff. Not re-manufactured. As an example, about 15 years ago I needed 42 Chev seating material. They had it!! $65 per yard. A friend who just bought some wool/mohair type material for a '40 from Doug told me he paid $90 per yard. Oh well..... nothing's getting cheaper!!

I'd suggest you at least contact "SMS" and see what they have to say.

Bill.
