Happy Monday, Everyone. I'm a 61 year old retired engineer and life-long wrench turner who just several weeks ago took possession of a 1930 AD with a long history in my wife's family. This forum has been immensely helpful in answering many of the questions that have arisen as I prepare the vehicle for its first drive in probably a dozen years. There are two questions I have not found ready answers for:

1. Air Cleaner-What do you guys who drive regularly use for an air cleaner-the original or something with more modern filtration?

2. Battery Tray- Does anyone have photos of what the battery tray/holder should look like? I'm wondering specifically about how/if the battery is secured. It just seems like ther might be something missing from what I've got.

Thanks

Jerry

Most use an original air cleaner. They are not easy to find. If you can find a modern one to fit then use it.

The battery tray is reproduced. It basically is two support iron assemblies with a sheet metal flat bottom "u" riveted to them. Two long special carriage bolts close the inside and outside. Check the Filling Station online catalog Catalog Link for the parts you might need.

Thank you Chipper and JD. I do have the original air cleaner- I just found it this morning and that is what prompted my post. I had been planning to fabricate something while hunting for an original, and after seeing the real thing in real life, can't decide if I want to run it or fab a more modern assembly. As far as the battery box is concerned, based on your description, what I have is complete. The U shaped steel is corroded through across almost its entire width, so I built a reinforcement to ensure the battery does not fall out until I fab a replacement piece. I had assumed that the long carriage bolts served a function beyond just running between the front and rear supports, but apparently that's all they do. Thanks again.

The fillingstation.com sells both the battery tray and also the timber battery spacers which fit onto the long carriage bolts discussed above. The timber helps clamp the battery in position.

The wooden spacers ride on the long bolts and hold the battery firmly. They are quite easy to fabricate if you have any woodworking experience. I can email yu a picture of original and dimensions if you need.

I have tons of pictures of the battery Tray for my 1929

i have drawing i made of the original battery tray that i did for a design class i took, i made a 3d model of the tray and how it is mounted to the frame for a layout to determine HOW to securely mount my Optima 6v battery.

i can post photos or links to them if interested, as well as a pdf of the drawing i did. granted it is based off my 1929.

I would be interested in seeing the photos and PDF if you post. My battery box is ok, but I am fabricating a new support channel as the old one is thin. I would also be interested in the wood spacers.

Can't tell what all of them were made from. I have one that appears to be cedar. Not sure on others could be pine or fir. Don't think they were expensive wood.
