I believe only the last year of the 4-bangers, 1928, had push rod covers.

Some say "Street is neat". I prefer "1928 is great" I have documented my 45 years with a 1928 Chev Tourer, from 1973 to 2018, and regulary add other items that I hope are of interest to others. Your comments are most welcome. The story of the Red Chev can be viewed at http://my28chev.blogspot.com/

Thanks guys, someone was going to give me a exposed 4 cyl. power plant and he thought it was a 28, and I did not. Thanks again that cost him a beer.

Cool (or cold?).
For the 4-cylinder engines with the distributor in the middle of the block and it is driven by the camshaft, the block will have a casting date. It'll be in the form of:
- First character is the month (A=Jan, B=Feb, etc.) - Next number is the day of the month (1 - 31) - Next number is the year (6=26, 7=27, or 8=28)
The engines with the distributor that is driven by the starter/generator are 1925 and earlier.
Cheers, Dean
