Hey everyone,
I am currently putting together a "hot rod" out of a '33 chevy 1.5 truck, and decided I'd really like to build a straight six for it.
I have a 292 Chevy six already, and I am seeking advice on what performance parts to start with. I've talked to a few of the old guys around here, and first thing the suggested was splitting the exhaust manifold and putting a dual or tri two barrels on it.
Also, I understand that 250's and 292's share parts, but 235 and other 6's are different.. Is that correct?
Does anyone have any other suggestions on this?
Any suggestions on cam, lifters, pistons, or aftermarket heads?

The 250/292 are completly new engines from 235. The 292 has a longer stroke than the 250. I ran a 250 in a race car years ago. Clifford Research is six cyl. performance company. My 250 was bored 1/8 over(4" bore) and used 327 pistons. Isky 505 cam and 750 Holly on Clifford manifold and Clifford hedders. I was track champion two years in a row running against 300 F##ds. The 250 can turn more RPMs than the 292.

The 292 has a taller block due to its ultra long stroke. at least for a modern engine. It was designed for low speed torque and not high RPMs. I agree the 250 would be a better choice. For use in a 1.5 old truck a later 235 would look good and provide all the"speed" a big truck can handle.

So the 250 is way better because of the shorter stroke? I already have a 292  I was hoping I could use it. I've heard of the 327 pistons before - I'll keep that in mind.

I'm not going to keep it a 1.5 ton truck, I am planning on chopping it down to a 1/2 ton "pickup" sized truck with less tall gears. i'd like to be able to go faster than 45MPH, haha :)

I bought the running gear from a 29 1-1/2 ton truck a few years ago from someone who did a similar project. He cut the doors at the window lower and the rest of the body rearward to make a convertible. Being that he was 6' 6" he also extended the body about a foot.
