Hi. Anyone can give me information on a 1947 truck with the designation: KEP101 Type: 3100/24. It has been in Sweden since new and is equipped with 15" wheels with loose rims and 785x15 tyres. Where and when was it built? Were there different serial numbers on exported trucks?

I may be wrong but I think Europe used Canadian Blocks. Look for numbers on Maple Leaf truck block: 1941-1949 3835253 part no.3688770 for 216 or 3835309 part no.369682 1941-1949 3835309 part no.3688771 for 235 1942-1947 839910 part no.606537 for 216 1942-1947 839751 part no.606538 for 235 1942-1947 3835335 part no.606538 for 235
This may help.

The casting number of 3835309 indicates it is a 1948-1949 235 big truck engine. This number really can not be changed. The HBM stamped engine number does indicate it is a 1950 1/2 ton truck engine. I would suspect the original 1948-1949 engine number was ground off and restamped on an engine replacement.. The 1 in the stamped number would appear as an I as GM used I rather than 1 in their stampings. To the rear of the fuel pump there should be a large cast circle with a 8 in the center if it is a 1948 or 1949 engine. If it is a 1950 engine a O in the center. If you remove the push rod cover you will find the engine number is stamped into the block is the gasket area. Also a 1950 engine has a much larger buldge on the lower left side of the block due to the main oil gallery being relocated father out on the block. The head casting number is under the rocker arm cover , left side on top. Be intresting what head it has as any 1948 and head will fit but the 1950 had valve improvements.

That is a 1948 or 1949 engine for sure. ALSO THE ENGINE NUMBER HAS BEEN RESTAMPED FOR SURE USING PROBABLY THE ORIGINAL 1950 216 NUMBER. NOTICE THE 1 IS STAMPED AS A 1 AND CHEVROLET USED THE LETTER I FOR THE NUMBER 1. THE ENGINE WILL NOT HAVE FULL PRESSURE OILING. THERE WILL BE A SMALL STAMPED STEEL PLATE HELD ON TO THE BLOCK WITH THREE SCREWS ON THE LEFT SIDE KIND OF BEHIND EXHAUST PIPE. FULL PRSSURE ENGINES DID NOT HAVE THE PLATE. CAN'T EXPLAIN THE VALVE COVER BUT IT IS FROM A 1959 OR LATER PASSENGER CAR ENGINE, NOT SURE HOW THE BOLTED IT TO A 1949 HEAD.
