I am thinking that fender guides started in the 50s but not sure, the light is usually sold as 12 volt,I thought my 39 coupe would look good with them, but I wonder if it would be the wrong thing to spend $65.00 pr for.

starting in 1934 parts book they show up as "fender markers". They clip onto the right front fender and fasten down, they telescope like an aerial upwards with a GM emblem on a 3/4 football shape. They light up with small bulb in the top for entering a garage you can tell where the fender is.

Only thing he is going to get for the $40 is the aftermarket ones. NOS ones run minimum of $800, depending on year.

The member 1959 chevy " the 356 king "......perry has them.

my 1940 Chevrolet parts book lists them under 8.172 FENDER MARKER UNIT , lists part numbers for 1938--1939 and separate number for 1940. No pictures in my book.

Thank you, then I will use them although they are 12 volt, they still light up with 6 volt, but the light isn't real important so much. The ones that I bought are really not made to fit the 39 fender, because of the round curve instead of a bead, but I will make it work.

The lighted ones I've seen have a replaceable bulb. Just put a 6v bulb in it.

The reason that I mentioned 12 volt bulbs was that I thought that it indicated the era when they first came out but someone explained that they go way back a few years.

Dang, those are like gold. Never understood the purpose of fender guides until I drove my 38 into the garage and could not see where my passenger fender was. I soon bought a set of Casco fender guides. I would be afraid to leave them on the car unattended though, easily removed with a crescent wrench.

got a small collection going, i have sold some to friends, but getting down to keeping the ones that i have cars for, that 38/39 had be be the hardest one ever to get my hands on, this one is perfect N.O.S. but it might never see a car due to the high value these bring. if i put it on my 39 for a show, im going to need to be watching it none stop.

it would drive HAGERTYS nuts

I have a pair of the orange ones. Many years ago my son was in a junk shop and a guy picked them up and asked the shop owner what they were. He said he didn't know. The guy asked how much and was told $20. Anyway he said that was too much and put them back. My son bought them and they have sat on my shelf. I am going to install them on my 38 roadster but they don't have the mounting brackets for the base which I need to make. Do you know what year they apply to? Incidentally there appears to be no provision for lighting.

Anyone have a picture of a 41 fender guide? I can't tell by the accessory brochure what it is supposed to look like. Was it lighted?

Thanks,
Charlie computer

I looked through all the years from 1934 and up and lighting is not mentioned for any.

Thanks everyone for the information on the lighted up part. I still don't know what a 41 guide looks like. Does someone have a picture of one they could share?

Thanks again,

Thanks! I don't think I have ever seen one before.

I also noted that they are called _markers" and not guides.

Truckers have used them for a long time and they are called guide poles or fender markers and referred to by experienced drivers as "dummy sticks".
