Hello
I need help on the following
The 1949 convertible and I suppose the 50/51 and 52 have a specific floor support brace behind the door in addition to the 3 floor braces on each side that you find on all the other models.
I was wondering if this brace is identical to the one on the Hardtop of 1950/51/52. Could someone help me on that ?
Thank you
Best regards
JC

Jean...are these the braces you are referring to? My guess is that they were peculiar to the convertible only...but a Belair owner would know better.

I just looked at my 51 Belair (hardtop)and the braces in the illustration posted by Raleigh look the same. If you need a photo I could do that tomorrow, just send me your Email address in a PM.

The parts book shows the 1949-1952 convertible and the 1950-1952 Bel Air use the same part.

Thank you all for your help
Yes this is the part I am referring too.
The ones on my convertible are in bad shape and will have to be redone and reinforced. I was told that this is the most important part on the car as it sustains (partly) the body being a convertible.
thank you again

Without that brace the door post would be very wobbly when the door is closed. On the early 1949 post 2 door models you could see the post/side of car flex when the door was closed. The bodies would even crack at the belt line and a specal patch was made for a repair. The bodies were strengtnened in mid 1949 and the 1950 was farther improved.

Thank you Gene for this info
Do you happen to have any info or picture which explain or show this special patch or how they reinforced this brace at that time ?
Thank you

we just replaced the entire floor pan, trunk pan and toe boards on my daughter's 50 convert. the braces were already attached to the floor pan we got from a repo source. i can look up the source if u are replacing the entire floor pan. i can't believe how stout the 50 convert frame is, especially in the X-member. mike
