Carlisle:

Rainy and misty. I've been to all the fall shows. This was the worst one yet. I wanted to paint a high water line on the side of my trailer but I forgot to bring my stepladder. I caught quite a few catfish but released them. Too muddy for any other kind of fish and I didn't have a liscense anyway.

Hershey.

Had good weather here but seems the crowds are getting smaller and smaller each passsing year. It rained on Saturday afternoon. You can always count on it raining at Hershey. Not bad this year but still... There was an abundance of old parts for lots of well dead marques. Lots of open spacesl and lots of good stuff at prices that would shock the average customer. I've been going to Hershey since 1970.

Observation: I was pleased to see most folks still honored our country while the national anteem was played.

Observation 2: Both Carlisle and Hershey have seen better days and it won't bbe many years before it won't be wotth going to, either as a vendor or a customer. Just my feelings.

I have great neighbors at Carlisle and Hershey. A special mention for John Mahoney and his buddies. What a great bunch. I heard so many "fforgetaboutits" that I'm starting to sound like a New Yorker. John is a great guy and is always ready to help me in any way he can. One could ask for nothing more.

There was a great barn find car in a 1940 Chevrolet Master Delulxe. Very straight car and nice interior and sheet metal. It sold on Wednesday, I think. That was pretty soon. It had the right radio, accessory bumber guards on front , Accdssory trunk guard on rear. Only drawback was that it was a Master and a four-door.

I checked out the 1940 also. It was a neat car with a lot of potential, solid car for the Northeast. Some elbow grease and some mechanical fixes and you have a nice driver for a good price, he started at 10,500 and next day was 9,500. Could have come down again. I liked the dealer decal applied on the lower part of the trunk deck, most of which was still intact. The car belonged to a gentleman that attended the Hershey meet for years. He is into the brass era so I told him the Chevy was too new for him! Also was a neat 1927 Coupe that sold and went to Tennessee, not sure of the price.

The backroads 1940 all original low mileage Special Deluxe 2 door is a better buy at $13,000.

Charlie, thank-you, your a great neighbor to have too!. I had some phone call's from the "crew" asking me if I had heard from you. They were concerned with all the flooding in your area and wanted to make sure you were ok and made it home safe without any problems to your home.

I don't know about the "other 40" mentioned but the 40 we are talking about was down to $7,500 on Wednesday night, it was hard to believe that there was a better deal then that there. Where was this other car located? I did not hear anyone rumbling about it as the 4 door sedan everyone seemed to be talking about..

Charlie glad your home and not under water! too bad w have to wait another year, by the way my wife is going to bake a pie with the apples you gave us

John,

Got home alright but had to deture through Dunn, NC, then 421 North to Lillington, then down 401 South to Fayetteville. I-95 was closed below Dunn. What a mess!

Matthew blew down a large oak tree in my front yard. I had a lot of help getting it sawed up yesterday. Still a lot of clean-up to be done. Worked my tail off yesterday.

Gene,

What 1940 are you talking about? The one at Hershey would be hart to beat, I think.

As long as the tree was in the yard and not on the roof of your house!
That 40 was at $7500 on Wednesday at about 6:30 PM sold by Thursday morning. It was take a few grand to get it road safe but it was in a time capsule for sure!

Hey Charlie,
I was just wondering how your clean up was going from the hurricane? I am still cleaning up broken tree limbs from Sandy. Last anybody heard from you, that you had some down trees to remove. Hope all is good with that.

I just wanted to let you know my wife made a pie with the apples you gave myself and the "crew" Thanks a lot again for everything.

"Fagetabotitt", that pie was good! Well 48 weeks to go till next years get together at Hershey, maybe I will get my wife to bake a pie before I leave and we can have a little home made snack for the Tuesday set-up.
Still trying to figure out where that other 40 was that Gene was talking about.

Thanks, John.

I'm looking forwart to next year.

It took me two days and two chain saws to get the old oak cleaned up.

I think the 40 Gene was talking about must have be heresy. Agrin

The other '40 Gene mention belongs to "Backroads" Jim Koontz...

A really nice car! I went for a spin in it during the Eastern Six Cylinder Tour in Sept. A really nice driving and well maintained car.

1) Charlie said he saw a '40 4 door for sale at Hershey

2) Gene said that Jim's '40 (which is listed on this site in the classifieds) is a nicer car at a nicer price...

There... you're all caught up! ok

I was caught up all along, thanks for your attempt to get me caught up. I just was looking for a clarification The part I was, and still am, confused with it is did Gene see both cars to make his comparison? If not I just wonder how can anyone say one car is better then another without seeing both, unless he did, and left that part out. Anyone can have an opinion.
I guess Gene must have seen the car Charlie and I had mentioned, otherwise how could such an observation could be fairly made, without seeing both cars? Understand now where I am coming from?

No, I have never seen either car. I was going by the things Jim did to his car, parts replaced, etc. and did a 300 mile tour with no problems.A proven good runner. An advantage over a "barn fresh" car. Also that it is a Special Deluxe with more chrome trim wich I consider to be better looking than a Master Deluxe.

Well, I've seen pics of the Hershey one, and seen Jim's in person. You can quote me on preferring Jim's then. Sorry to make it seem it was coming from you, Gene...

I guess it really does not matter now if the discussion goes off topic. considering after the 3rd post in this thread when you started talking about a car that was a "better buy" that was not even at Hershey/Carlisle, and that was based just on photos of that car. The fact that neither you or Brewster did not physically see the car to appreciate what we were talking about, but yet had offered your opinions is somewhat confusing. Then again that is my opinion, and just like everyone else we all can have an opinion.

Yes there is saying that photo's "can say 1000 words" but seeing something preserved for that amount of time left most of those speechless who saw it in person. True that there might have been better buys somewhere else on the planet, but there were not too many better buys then that car at Hershey this year, and after all that was what the original topic was about

John, you should give Jim a call about his '40. It would fit nicely on the top of your list there! You wouldn't even have to bump anything down... just add it right to the top!

Simply two different cars, in different places, with different price ranges. I saw the car in Hershey, a nice car for somebody, and I am sure the other car is nice also...

It almost seems like you guys are getting a commision for selling Jim's car, As I tell most salesman, if it were that good of a deal it would have been long gone before I heard about it, I am pretty sure you or one of your close friends would have it in their garage now.

Thanks for suggesting the car, and how easy it would be to add it to the top of the list, That is a new sales pitch it is right up there with the salesman I had at the Caddy dealer two years ago when I bought the CTS. When I get out of the car he askes me "how old are you? 50? I just looked at him in an odd way and he replied "these CTS's make everyone look younger"

Jim's car is not for me, I was even thinking about buying a 40 the one at Hershey (oh yes, that was the original topic) when the price dropped to $7,500 would have been in one of my garages now, but I really don't want or need another car or a Chevy for that matter. I am starting to run out of storage, in both NY and FL. One thing not on my list below is a 1987 Celebrity Station Wagon that my in-laws purchased new, and now has 21,000 miles. I really could not say no when she gave it to me, it is that clean, besides being 30 years old!! Only was outside when they drove my sons down to Florida twice when they were 12, 10 and 4 years old. Other then that it stayed in the garage every day. Seems like none of them survived, it's just that nice of a car. I have the space so I figured one day one of my son's might want it. I will have it at the SE AACA Meet this coming February in Ocala.
Now thinking about it maybe this Celebrity wagon could be for you, Young family starting out a station wagon is a must, it's a Chevrolet, even has a 6 cylinder maybe they can make a special consideration so you can go on the six cylinder tour , original bill of sale....
Besides, I promised my wife the next old car will either be another 59-61 Buick or 60 Caddy I would like to start thinning the heard soon, problem is deciding which ones I want to keep..

I agree 100% with Chevrolet Master Six, different place and different cars. Getting it back on topic $7,500 was a good price for anything that was complete and ran at Hershey for sale this year.

Considering Carlisle was a washout I thought that I would have done better then last year. Which was a my best year ever vending at Hershey, I thought that this year was going to top it. There was more people walking around then last year, but not a lot were carrying anything. It was not that they were just not buying my stuff, they were not buying anything. Charlie and I made those observations every evening as we were packing up. I broke even so what more could I ask for
