Am in need of some knowledge, am trying to go as low buck as possible can't afford the mstang II setup. I know that the camero and fire bird steering boxes sit behind the wheel same as my
51 while the chevelle and impala sit in front of the wheel, would either work ?????

Am thinking the camero steering box would work, bolted in the same possition as the stock 51 box, just move the pitman arm 90 degress to connect to the stock drag link , also using the camero tilt column... any suggestions .... I would hate to install it , turn the wheel to the right and have the car turn left ...... LOL

I saw here in Brasil one 51 in which the stbox was from an sixties Opel made in here: the pitman is vertical thru it and moves from right to left under it, moving the arms and wheels. There should be something similar in there. And remember: Jeeps used something quite close. But the only easy conversion is from an early Loewy Studebaker, circa 54/55.Or an assistance cylinder from a frod.

Mahar,
Thanks for the responce, and will do some checking, But the jeep steering boxes are in front of the steering, wouldn't it move the pitman arm in reverse of a steering box that sets behind the steering assembly , and push and pull the drag link backward ??????

Yes, but I´m talking about older boxes from the 50/60´s, who worked in the same principle as the chevy ones. The box I saw here had a horizontal pitman, but the easiest way can be a rack and pinion behind the engine. This will require a universal jointed steering column, but with a little inventivity you can get everything on junkyards, like a Cavalier steering.
Good luck
