Hi, have a delco stereo older 70-80 am/fm radio 8trk. 16009960. problem- don't know where to hook up most of the wires. this was bought on ebay, used. 1 wire in the blk plug for lamp in dash. where does it go. the other plugs are for the spkrs. also, where does the 8 trk get power. i see no plug for that. how hot should radio be to the touch. i tried bench testing and the sound is low or none and the radio was hot to touch on left side area. the spkrs are 4ohm to 8ohm, do i need 10ohms? i only need 2 front spkrs. is the radio ok. thanks in advance for any help frankyt

This radio has 3 plugs that fit the jack in the radio. Have pasted a diagram of the color codes and wiring for the radio. http://www.autos.com/aftermarket-pa...or-delco-car-radio-units-and-accessories

Speakers should not be grounded and 10 ohms ones are recommended. If the radio is running hot to the touch something is wrong. It's drawing excessive current. Usually less expensive to get another working one then having that fixed. BTW the 8T get power from the 12v source

radiofixer, with speakers un-attached the radio is cool to the touch. i tried attaching just 1 spkr according to the link you send me, and i didn't get any sound. Am i using a body ground for speaker ground? when i hook up one side of the spkr to ground, the wire lights up when i touch the test light to it. the other side spkr power lights up. the radio gets HOT to touch with 1 spkr attached. confused. need advice. thanks in advance.

You should not be grounding the speaker to body ground. The two wires designated + and - for each speaker and are the ones to hook up. Their is a set of wires for each speaker. It sounds like the quad amp is shorted if getting hot. It's probably blown already if you've hooked it up to chassis ground. The short is instantaneous.
