I am looking at a 1970 Tribute SS Chevelle, Was built with a LS-4 Engine can not find much about engine. Data known Engine Code CGV (1970 454/345HP, casting #3963512). This car is also equipped with Factory Air and manual M-22 4 Speed.
Can anyone shed any light on this LS-4 engine.

Thanks Don

First I do not know what a Tribute is.
A CGV engine is a 345 HP engine from a full sized car.
The Chevelle 454 360 HP engine begins with cg or a Cr.

A Tribute is a clone. A Chevelle badged to look like a SS.

unless the tribute/clone is of really high quality in fit and finish both inside and out, you'd be lucky to break even if you sold it.

question, what did the car come with a 345 hp 454 ? Problem with 454 and other big blocks your going to put a lot of expensive hi test 91 thru the motor and the milage is going to be brutal.....8 miles per gallon around town and maybe 12-14 on highway.

I had a 75 elcamino SS-454 220 hp, dog with factory 280- gears, what a slug.

There was a complete series of magazine articles back in the day about a 72 ss 454 monte carlo. They did virtually everything to that pig and ended up with 12 city and 18 highway.

Intake change, opened exhaust up with headers, new timing chain not retarded 4 degrees as stock, change gear ratio and lots of other stuff in an effort to get milage.

A 345 horse BBC would be a gas hog & dog and never get money back. The stock 1970 ss 454 450 is considered the ultimate combo

mike lynch.....who owned one for a week until the fuel consumption drove me to let it go at a loss.
