If you can afford it have the exhaust made from non polished stainless and you will never have to worry about it again.
In the 43 years my 28 has been on the road, 3 exhaust systems. first two of mild steel lasted max ten years each, last one of stainless going fine at 23 years.
Also unless you are committed to being 100% original, suggest full length exhaust, safer, quieter, and you can have a civilized conversation at 50 miles per hour.
