The Filling Station offers a new water pump with modern bearing. I do not know of anyone modifying an old pump to take new bearing. but I could be wrong.

This is a common modification here in OZ and several places do it, and claim they can do any pump made. I have not had my Chev pump done but have had one done for my'34 Terraplane, the fan assembly for a '24 Willys Overland, and my brother has done four Dodge fours, all of which have been successful. No more grease flinging around the engine compartment! Compact seals are used that are usually sourced from general purpose electric motor pumps (ie non-automotive).Bearing assemblies are available off the shelf in a range of sizes and shaft lengths. It is mandatory from most places that you supply a usable impeller, for these are hard to source new. I would be surprised if you cannot find someone already specialising in doing conversions in the UK. Check out the ads in magazines etc.

Hi All,
I had my water pump converted to modern "innards" back in 2009 and have never looked back. Also have put several other Chev 4 owners onto the same mod.
Every body is happy with the result.
The only parts you have to supply are the housing and the pulley, as part of the conversion is a new impeller.
Recommend the conversion with no reservation.
Regards
Ray
Some say "Street is neat". I prefer "1928 is great" I have documented my 45 years with a 1928 Chev Tourer, from 1973 to 2018, and regulary add other items that I hope are of interest to others. Your comments are most welcome. The story of the Red Chev can be viewed at http://my28chev.blogspot.com/

there is a lot to be said about the original pump , first and foremost if you oil it everyday you use it, you also get to look at the other components in that area and you may prevent a problem arising, My 28 touring has had the same pump for the past 31 years and i just did a trip to central Australia last year 5,500 miles no problems,my roadster I put on a new style pump to make it friendlier for the wife when she uses the car and it lasted 2 years. So went back to the original pump and it has been there for the past 5 years. just my 2 cents worth. Jim
