A few years ago I picked up a set of NOS Delco-Remy horns. They are the pancake type.

Anyway, I don't see the numbers on the box anywhere in my parts books. So I need your help identifying them.

Heres the information off the box , the instructions page, and the horns:

a. froms the box:

^V Package No. 1880226 and 29331

DR modell 33-H

b. From instructions:

DR - 330

4-4-39

c. From the Horns:

Model 641 and 642

This box comes with a package containing the mounting brackets, etc.

I was hoping they were for the 41 Chevrolet but might be for some other GM product. I don't know. If not for the 41 I will get rid of them.

Thanks,

computer Charlie

Jianis,

Thanks for the information.

I think the number may have been just a manufacture number or something. These are GM Delco-Remy.

Owing to no other response to my plead for help, I think I will mount the horns on my 41 project car. If anyone ever says anything about them -such as them not being correct - I will show them a download of my pleadings and tell them to stuff it. I will point out that the experts on the VCCA don't know that there are incorrect and that trumps whatever some know-it-all has to say. VCCA judges included.

Best,

Charlie computer

By the way: I pulled for your country quit a few times during the olympics. Especially that beautifuy young woman who competed in the running races. luv2 dance yay

In 1941 Chevrolet used two completely different horns.
The was the short projector type. they said beep-beep.
Then there was the sea shell type like other GM cars used. They had the more modern Bamp-bamp tone.

Gene,

These are the "sea shell" type just as came on my 41 project car and all the other master and special deluxe. I think the commercial and utility used tjhe single "beep-beep" type.

Anyway, I plan on using them. Seems no one will know if they are correct or not.

Thanks,

Charlie, Delco-Remy bulletin 1a-119 dated 4-15-52 describes 1880226 as set of six volt Klaxton Sea Shell horns to use where space is limited. They were oe on some Buick's and Pontiacs 40-49. United Delco bulletin 1a-93-12 also shows 1880226/D1930 as a universal set of six volt horns but they are not the sea shell type but more flat and square.

to clarify as to why there were two different horn types in 1941 there is a service notice in my 41 data book dated 6-16-41 with the heading, horns-late production passenger cars, that states a change has been made in the design of the passenger car horn as a result of the national defense program, due to the inability of obtaining die cast material. it goes on to state that although the tone of this horn is not as pleasing as the one formerly used, its effectiveness has not been changed.

I wasn't clear, these are bulletins used by United Motors distributors as accessory sell sheets. The United Delco bulletin is dated January of 1968. It is interesting that the long number of 1880226 stayed the same with such a drastic change in the actual part.

I never saw a 1942 with the non-cast horns including black-out cars. According to the parts book a 1942 could also have either type horn.

The short projector type horns actually had NO projectors, just the bell.
