Do you '28 National owners have a favorite carb re-builder?
Has any of you experimented with a more modern replacement,
and how did that turn out.
I'm sure mine needs something as it idles so poorly I have
been using it as a coctail shaker.After a while I don't care
anymore.

The original Carter RAKX-0 carburetors run well. I have three '28 Chevys and never found a reason to change.

If yours does not idle smoothly then it likely needs repairs. Many '28 carburetors have corrosion damage that does not allow a top quality rebuild. I would highly suggest only a very experienced rebuilder be trusted to do the job.

Are you referring to yourself when you say "only an experienced rebuilder should be trusted to do the job". I have sent numerous car owners to you and have had a few of them tell me that you do nothing but excellent work. If you need a Carter brass bowl carb rebuilt, Chipper is the man for the job.

Bob,
Appreciate the good words. I try to provide a quality job for a reasonable price. Keeping these old Chevrolets on the road should be a goal for all of us.

I hesitate to toot my own horn on one hand. Don't want folks to send their valuable carburetor to a butcher to get it rebuilt on the other. I have had to correct problems in several carburetors that the local or even advertising rebuilders have cobbled. Some of the problems were due to inexperience, lack of specifications and incorrect parts. Would rather have others tell of their experience either good or bad as long as they don't have an axe to grind or a dog in the fight. How's that for cliches.
