hello all,
been looking at many pictures of 49 chevs for refference, but the research shows close to a 50 / 50 split.
was the center trim on 49 styleline special painted, or chrome?
thanks, Gene

The same center trim moulding was used from 1949-52 and was painted. It is in two sections, the straight top piece and the curved front piece. There was an after market chromed on piece moulding sold years ago.It allowed the removal of the ornament for that "cool" look.

i can recall going into "Lou's Automotive" on Baltimore street , cumberland md in 1961 and buying the stainless steel hood "bullnose" moulding for my first car, a 49 club coupe, for about $2.50. it was wrapped in cheap chineese paper. i replaced the two piece painted factory mouldings and , damn, i was cool. still got the 49, after all these years.mike

Back in 1960 I walked into "Pep Boys" in Los Angeles and purchased the two-piece stainless steel hood trim. Had my choice....either the two-piece trim to be used with the original hood ornament, or the one-piece "bull nose" trim. Anyway, I installed the two-piece trim on my '51 Chevy and it is still on there to this day. I saved the old factory trim and it is on a shelf out in the shop.....someplace!

  wink laugh yay

I remember 1960 well, President IKE, Gary Francis Powers bailout over the USSR, and leaving my nice 1952 Belair in Texas to go to U.S. Marine Corp Boot camp at MCRD!

It had dual carbs, dual exhaust, mallory dist. and a new 54 261 engine short block with the original 52 235 head. It had been a power glide and was converted to 3 speed stick, still had the PG rearend. Was a good cruiser. All I have left is the title, I sold it got a down payment after I bought a new 59 Pontiac 4 door HT. The new owner totaled it within two weeks, no more payments. I had two 51 belairs till recently I sold the parts doaner , I still have one in restoration. I liked the 51s better, but the 52 was a sweety.
