Question, will a 1939 Chevy passenger car steering box fit a 1947 Chevy passenger car?

Leaks , took most play out. Would like to have one to rebuild. Filled mine with corn head grease. So far so good. Have a friend with a very good 1939 box , but don't know if compatible.

Doesn't look like it from the parts book.

The housing and pitman shaft are the same. The worm shaft and steering column are different due to length.

We have covered this topic many times. Have you searched previous posts for alternate causes for steering issues? Here is a sample of postings Steering Box Adjustments.

Good luck, Mike

I've got a 48 in my 39 MDSS. Works fine, just a slight difference in mast length. Mine is is RHD though, LHD may be different. The different length made no difference to the column change. Went on fine.
