I am getting spark outside the engine. The rod at the spark advance plate is sparking. I am able to get the car to idle but has no power to move it. I have a new reman distributor with the old internals. Not sure if it is correct but I installed everything the way I took it out. Both sides of the points stay grounded all the time. I open the points and check continuity and it shows it is still grounded. Is that correct. Very confused. Paul

The movable arm of the points should not be grounded when the points are open.

I agree. I just don't know what is wrong with the distributor that is keeping if positively charged. I need to find out what insulated parts are inside the distributor so I can keep it isolated when it needs to be

Could the brass wire holder that screws in be grounding to the body of the distributor? or as suggested it the points.
