Hi
I am beginning to wonder if sometime in my cars checkered history the dipstick has been changed.
When I top up to the full mark I find that it fairly quickly goes to around half full (in terms of how far up the stick the oil shows) it then hardly moves after that. I know I have a rear bearing leak, but there is no blue smoke from the exhaust.
The dipstick is approx 7.5 inches long ( the part that goes into the engine) and the "full" mark is approx 1.5 inches from the tip. There is a "low" mark close to the tip.
It probablyi is correct but the way the oil is consumed is strange. I did a round trip of 120 miles yesterday and seem to have used very little.
The oil pressur is good around 10 psi
Any comments welcome

Not at a place where I can measure a '30 oil dipstick so can't comment on dimensions.

I always check the dipsticks by draining the pan of oil and then adding the recommended amount of oil. If the correct stick the oil level should be very close to the full mark. On vehicles with oil filters emptying the filter or compensating for its volume and running the engine for a short time is necessary before checking the dipstick mark.

There is o full mark on a 1929-1934 dip stick. The instructions were to keep the oil level above the cross hatched area on the bottom of the stick.
On my '34 I filled it with the recommended 5 (US) quarts of oil. Then filed a small notch on the dip stick so I had an actual full mark. I found that the oil level at the top of the cross hatched area is when the oil is 2 Qts. low.
The parts book says the 1929-1934 dip stick should measure 7 9/16" from under the stop washer to the bottom of the dip stick.
