Still working on the leak on my 46 fleetmaster. First it was a little to full. Looking it over while on the hoist I noticed a little divet. If your looking at the tranny on the passenger side of the car, to the left of the fill and drain plug there is a small indent where it seemed the fluid may be leaking. Can anyone tell me what this is and could it be leaking from being over full.
One more thing, does the motor have to be moved forward to get the tranny out? The crossmember is riveted on? Thanks

The engine does not need to be moved.
Look closely at the "divot"...is it the pin driven into the case that locks the reverse idle gear in place?
See shop manual as there are insructions to use permatex on the pin when installing in the case to prevent leaks.
If it is leaking I would try using and epoxy to seal it externally rather than disassembling the transmission.

Bobsmanstuff,

It is no easy feet to remove the transmission. Please asks for help after studying your manual. The only way to get the transmission out by itself is by removing the transmission cover on the interior floor of your car and lifting it out after a whole lot of disconnecting of linkage, removing the universal joint, and unscrewing the transmission from the bell flywheel housing.

You're right. On a Cabriolet, however, one must have a little more patience and must manouver the stinkin thing around a bit whilst at the same time holding your temper and your tongue. Re manual. Agrin

BTW: I went out to the garage last week to see how the project car is doing. It was still there where I left it. The garage is not locked. No one will even steal the stinkin thing. I kicked it, turned out the light and left. stressed

I had the same on my trans, a small hole which would weep oil. I drained the trans,and then cleaned the case with de-greaser, and put a blob of silicon over the hole.
I have been looking at the cross-member under the trans, it is rivetted in place. I reckon if those rivets are drilled out, and replaced with high-tensile bolts, you could change the trans from the bottom of the car.

I will repeat. It is not necessary to remove the cross member to remove transmission.
was on the pre 1940 models and that crossmember was bolted in.
When the U joint is disconnected the torque tube can be dropped enough so the transmission can be slide back and removed.

I did put a little dab of epoxy on it and it doesn't leak.
