Hello I'm new to vintage Chevy's & this site. I have a 1931 Chevy 2 door 5 window coupe.
Looking for brake lining material. As I'm trying to keep car original. No hydraulic brakes.
I read an old article about a Mooney's part place in TX; but appears to be closed. I already looked online at the Filing Station.

Thank you & look forward to chatting & learning from some good people with VCCA.

I buy high strength lining strips from McMaster Carr. Then I install them myself on the shoes. Several others have also installed McMaster-Carr lining material. All so far have been satisfied with the stopping power. Cars range from 1927 to 1933.

What thickness do you use?

Paul
If it isn't broken, fiddle with it anyway so you have something to repair.

I have no idea as to thickness - recently purchased Chevy. But great question.

I'm just assisting mechanic with locating brake linings & a couple other items.

On McMaster Carr they have several. And on Vintage Auto parts I found a set for
Chevy's 1928-1940 $78. But doesn't mention thickness.

Do they need to contain asbestos? As the original? (NOS/NORS). It seems asbestos is not preferred & is it really needed? But then again I'm sure there are other lead/asbestos parts.
