Would like to find the correct clearances for the rod and main bearings. My engine was rebuilt with babbited bearings but is too tight.

The main bearings would be .001-.002"
The rod bearings would be ,0005" to .001"
The rods can not be slipped back and forth,(front to rear of engine) by hand but will move with a tap with an 8 ounce hammer.
If engine has been run a bit will slip back and forth by hand usually.
The mains are difficult to check. If done with plastigage the weight of the crankshaft must be supported.

So that more members will read your posts you might want to post in the 1933-1936 forum in the future.

By the way, I have found that a main bearing will knock with .002" clearance.

The center main bearing will knock with much less gap than either the front or rear.

From my experiance the 1936 engine with the larger main bearing journals and full pressure oiling (to the mains) can run with more main bearing clearence than the gravity fed small journal older models.
