I've had to wait awhile to have my trany worked on but I have a couple of questions. It seems to leak out the front. Is there a seal up front or just that cork gasket? Also what years had the same trany? Thanks Bob

There is no seal up-front. The front bearing lock nut also has an oil slinger built into it to prevent leakage. The cast front bearing retainer and its paper gasket must be in good condition, The 1941-1948 transmissions were the same.

In mine the bearing retaining ring was preventing the bearing retainer casting from seating properly.Leaked like a sieve. Found a ring with a smaller diameter. That fixed it.

Make sure you are not over filling the transmission - 1 1/2 pints is recommended. You can buy a front bearing that is sealed and remove the side sealing the bearing that you want exposed to transmission fluid. Good luck, Mike Replacement front bearing 2010 post

If you only want one side sealed then specify that when purchasing to save the hassle of removing one seal and possibly damaging the bearing.
