There's a nice looking '54 Del Ray on ebay. Interesting story, if it's all "true."

The '54 dealer's album calls this model a "Club Coupe."

\'54 Del Ray

I think they're neat.

But I'm still looking for a 54 Bel Air four door sedan. And this black and white color combination would be perfect - my favorite for that car.

(Edit by me note: Sorry the link wasn't working. I think I may have had "http://" in there twice. Anyway, it seems to be working now. :) )

Bill.

Chevrolet named it a club coupe as they discontinued the real club coupe for 1954 and the wanted the DelRay "two door" to sound like a more sporty model.

Hey Mahar,

I've been "talking" to the owner during and after the auction. If you happened to check, I think the bidding ended around $9200 with "reserve not met."

Here's a part of the most recent email I received from him. Note: I've cleaned up the spelling and grammar a bit to make it easier to read and understand......

His email:

Hi: It takes $17,500 to buy this one. I have not seen one this original. I deal with a lot of low milage cars. I just bought a 64 chrysler Imperial with 4821 documented miles. I also bought a 64 impala with a factory 4sp and dash tach.

It is done and a good driver from Carolinas. I am not in a hurry. This car has alot of local history. Thanks Bill (END of his email.)

As you can see, we're both named Bill. However, that's about the end of similarities - at least relative to his 54 Del Ray.

Feel free to contact him. I'm definitely out of the running.

Bill.

Nice car, I agree it is a bit over priced. Even for a nice DelRay. I still have a likeing for the BelAir. I guess the prices of the 54 Chevrolets is going up across the board compared to 3 or 4 years ago.The price guide that is linked on VCCA.org gives $14000 for an excellent and $18000 for Show for the DelRay 2 door sedan and the Belair 2 door sedan is $2000 more across the line for both 53 and 54 which sounds high to me but different areas of the country seem to have a wide price spread.

Thank you, Bill,
but as my heart screamed of impeached desire,
my mind remembered where I live.
A little bit too far...
