I am building a model (1:25) 140 hp Corvair engine. All the reference photos that I found are from the top and show black (air cleaner, fan, fan shroud, manifold). The few I found showing the bottom show rust & grime but they appear to be unpainted. was the block aluminum or painted? Of course, this isn't a life or death matter, but I'd like to get it as close to correct as possible. Also, I have the option of using ribbed chrome valve vovers or plain painted ones. Are the painted ones black?

Thanks, Pat

The bottom shrouds and sheet metal was black.
The aluminum block was not painted.
The valve covers were not painted but a dull silver plating.

Once again thank you Sir Gene. By the way, I'm about to start chasing down the knock in the '34. Wish me luck.

Distributor cap should be black. I assume the air cleaner has not been painted .

Note taken. The air cleaner was painted with what I thought was semi-gloss bout wound up almost flat. I can rectify that quickly.
