I was wondering if anyone out there knew much about the rear slider window operation on the '53 sport coupe ? It has a little "handle" that you pull up on to unlock and move the window back and forth. Both the handles on my car seem to either be broke or somehow have come loose. I have not taken off the door panels yet to see how they look. I will be doing that soon. (waiting on the glass) Does anyone know if these mechanisims are still available if it turns out I need new ones ? My gut feeling is they are broken.. Thanks

If you have the sliding type quater windows you DO NOT have a Sport Coupe. Its a 210 Club Coupe-body style 1027, the only 1953 model to have sliding windows. In 1953-54 the Sport Coupe was the hard top model (no center pillar) and the window cranked down (pivoted to the rear).

The parts interchange with 1949-52 Club Coupes.

The mechanism is rather simple. When the lever flips forward or back it disengages a tooth on the lever with a notched rack on the channel. If lever does not move it may be rusted solid. When you get it apart a little PB Blaster should free it up.

Hello Chevgene:

You are right !!! I checked the tag under the hood.. It is a body style 1027.. That being said...This mechanism does not seem to be working corectly. First of all it seems as though it has a LOCK position. One of them does not "Lock" the other question I have is with the handle itself. I don't think this lever moves the window at all ??? It seems as though you still have to use your hands (one on each side of the glass) to move (slide) the glass back and forth, after the lock is disingaged.... Is this correct, or does the lever actually move the glass at all ?

Thanks,

Alan

Once the lever is released (either direction) the window should slide with just a little push on the lever.

If I had your Email address I could send you a picture of the mechanism.

Thank you... It must be broken I guess. The glass will not move unless I move it manually with my hands. I would appreciate seeing a picture of how it should look. I should be getting the door panels off real soon. I'm replacing the panels and the glass.

my e.mail address is alan.ricard@charter.net

Talk to you soon.

Gene (Chev nut ?)

I was just checking to see if you would be able to send me a picture of the rear window mechanism you spoke of ?

By the way, I'm bidding on the '54 4DR , however, I would not pay over $10K for her. She looks real clean, but I just don't see much interest in 4DR's out here in Calif.

Thanks,

Alan

Hey Alan,

Good luck with the bidding.

By the way, I presume you're "alanricard" on eBay?? Right??

Oh, another question: where's "Apple Valley??"

I live in Apple Valley, Calif. , which is just north of San Bernardino, where they have the Route 66 Rondavue each Sept. I'm bidding on the '54, but I don't expect it to be sold. The reserve to too high. BTW, I got the picture of the rear quarter sliding window.. Thanks..

Alan,

The reserve MAY be (a lot) lower than the "buy-it-now." I guess one can always hope!

However, I also doubt the reserve is low enough for a "sensible" bidder to 'hit' it. I guess we'll find out more when it ends next Tuesday morning.

In the meantime, I see 'line10' knocked you out of the high bidder position by $100 around noon today.

Good luck!

Bill.

I oppted out of the bidding.... I seriously doubt if the owner of this car will let it go for less than $12K ... I know I wouldn't ; even though it is a 4DR, it appears to be very rare and probably worth having .

We'll see tomorrow, but I doubt if it will go.

Take care,

Alan
