Good morning all,

I just bought a '30 sedan from our local pharmacist. One of the women techs in the store told my wife about his desire to sell the car. To keep peace in the family I went and took a look at it. Just like Carol Brunetts' character in her "Gone With The Wind" sketch, I just couldn't resist.

Note: Guys under forty, YouTube it. It's a classic.

COmplete, everything works, new harness, good mechanicals solid wood, and new rubber. All around nice car just needing paint, a little upholstery work and some trinkets.

Job# 30559
Body# 0-9969
5AD365XX

Special Sedan (4dr). Oakland plant, correct?

I've located most of the parts I need at the FS, Billy Possum, Wallace, and Restoration Supply Company. Windscreen regulator, cowl and radiator anti rattle sashes, rt side tail lamp assembly (maybe) and some other trinkets

Questions I have: Black cloth covered high tension leads to the plugs and coil? I want to switch out the silicone wires that are installed to 10mm copper core. 90* plug end connectors?

Firewall color. Flat black or semi gloss?

It looks like the window surround had a an emblem or??? in the center of the lower portion. What went there and is it available? Is the maroonisish color solid or does it have a faux wood grain pattern? Or is mine just cruddy?

THe starter pedal rod is loose on the switch and moves back and forth about 3/4 of an inch. Normal? It looks like there is a set screw on the rod and the rod can be moved closer to the switch and locked. Not a 911 as it engages pretty well, but could be better. It's about like most foot pedal starter switches. Practice, practice.

I'm not a total rivet counter but I like to have my cars looking like well maintained cars of the era. However I did get rid of all the Phillips head screws I could find and replaced them with slotted heads as much as I hate slotted heads. Gimme Torx or PosiDrive.

ANy help you can give me after uncrossing your eyes from the length of this post is appreciated. After restoring a couple of forties GM cars I wanted a late twenties or early thirties car. Very impressed with the Chevy. Smooth engine, good brakes, enough speed to sorta keep up on country roads. I drove trucks with crashbox transmissions, twin stick 5X4s, 6X4s, thirteen and a fifteen speed during my working years so shifting is no problem.

Arrgggg! Firewall color should be body color. Body in white was painted before it arrived at the body drop. I should have remembered.

Is anyone producing front door sill plates or have a decent set they want to part with?

Congrats !!

they all need a lil TLC and such. good group of guys here that can assist with most items of need for your 1930.

As for wires, not sure why you want 10mm copper core ??
I ordered a custom set for my 1929 from Bob @ Marxparts
very nice set and looks GREAT !! they are 7mm

1929 Custom SparkPlug Wires

Here is what I ordered:
1929-34 Chevrolet satin black lacquered cloth
spark plug wire set with galvanized spark plug
terminals and antique style, distributor cap and
coil boots.

Love the cloth wire look, and did not want SHINY terminals

BearsFan helping out a lifetime Packers guy? Thanks.

The lightly lacquered cloth look is what I want too. Restoration Supply Company has the lacquered cloth wire in bulk. Black, brown and tan. I have coil and plug terminal ends and boots so I can make up a set.

The bulk wire is $2.00/ft. Nine feet should do it. 1&6 are 15"ea., 3&4 10"ea. 2&5 a foot each if I measured correctly. The rest is enough for the coil lead. I misspoke the size. It's 9mm. I prefer the copper core wires. No built in resistance and a little sturdier when handling, but the new silicone wires are pretty tough.

Thanks again for replying quickly.... Go Bears, except twice a year.

1. As you discovered, the firewall is painted body color.

2. According to the cowl tag your car was made in Oakland. However, your car serial number indicates that your car was made in Kansas City. Looks like you might have the wrong car serial number plate.

3. The spark plug wires were black lacquered cloth covered with brass 90 degree spark plug ends with the Chevrolet bow-tie stamped on.

4. The lower window garnish moulding had a diamond shaped decal emblem, which is not available.

5. The starter switch linkage that goes on the starter switch plunger will move up and down. There should be a coil spring inside of the linkage between the linkage and the starter switch plunger.

Good evening,

Argggg! A synapse is probably shorted or perhaps there is a bad ground in the brain housing group responsible for transferring information from eye to brain to keyboard and then to the forum. Body number should read 6AD 365XX. All the paperwork matches.

A spring makes sense. Will give a more positive feel to the pedal. A short compression spring should do the trick.

THank you for confirming the HT lead color. I have some 90s in the shop, but no bowtie on them. Oh darn there goes my chance for a 100 point car I guess.

So is there a spring that goes in the Starter Linkage between the Cotter pin, Yellow line on the left and the collar washer on the Starter Button, Blue Line on the Right ??
Starter Pedal Linkage Spring
So that it Would go around the Rod on the Starter Switch

I've dealt with Y&Z when I wired my '46 Packard. Good quality and perfect fit. Very nice folks. No problem having them customize the harness for accessories you want to add. I don't remember if they provide braiding service though.

My primary source over the years was Harnesses Unlimited. I used their harnesses in two Cadillacs. IIRC they provide braiding service.

I was surprised when I realized my sedan had a new harness. The wiring in these cars is so simple a guy can buy the wire with the correct color and tracers, build the harness, send it off to be braided. Or wrap it in friction tape for a real of the era look. HU has a harness for the ADs for under $350. I'm sure the rest of the suppliers, Rhode Island, Narragansett ect., are in the same range.
