Ready to change the oil filter and I can't get the cover off? Can't remember does it unlock by twisting? Or did the new paint just glue together after years in storage?
Didn't see anything in the accessories manual [Linked Image from i1027.photobucket.com]

It's probably the paint making the cover stick. Loosen the top bolt until it spins freely. (It does not pull out of the cover).
The cover then lifts off. You could gently pry it off if it is sticking--operative word is "gently."

The filter pulls straight up using the little handle on top of it. I use a turkey baster to suck all the oil out of the canister, which is easier than removing the bottom oil line.
Good luck.

???? My top bolt came completely out last night ??
and a plastic looking washer. problem on lift off Houston?

I may just leave it and just change the oil (1000 miles on the new engine) if the lid doesn't come off easy and worry about it later after my trip. Can't afford any fix it time right now, still have to mount tie down brackets on the trailer, bla bla bla. We are "hauling" the car to South Dakota Wednesday.

The paint is probably glueing the lid to the canister. If it were mine I would just change the filter with every other oil change....and change the oil every 1000 to 1500 miles.
In 1951 thet recommended changing the filter every 6000 miles.

Slight tap tap with steel hammer and off it came. Turns out the shop who dropped in the drive train had the top rudder gasket slipped over the edge and wedged the lid on.

Got the oil changed and the correct label on the filter cover

The owners manual says 5 quarts but it appears that I'm a quart short and I'm guessing its because of the add on of the accessory oil filter correct?
