Hello. 1941 Chevrolet Master Deluxe, unrestored original. I have been looking to buy a new 6 volt ignition coil. The new coil looks different than the original? one that's on the car. The older one has the coil wire on the bottom, whereas the new one has it on the top. The top of the older one has a thick, flexible metal shrouded wire going into the firewall. This shrouded cable is attached to the top of the coil with a metal cap fastened with four small prongs. Next to it is the small wire leading to the distributor. How do I make the new 6 volt coil adapt with configuration of the older coil? I have searched, but to no avail. Any help is appreciated.

you can use the new coil with the help of a jumper wire extension from the ignition switch wire to the other terminal on the bottom.

Your armored cable is called an Electrolock. You can get coils for them but they are not common nor inexpensive. I used to find them on ebay but I don't look at ebay much these days since they started putting so much crap into search results. As mentioned above it's possible to make a non Electrolock coil work but it won't look original if that's important to you.

If you are creative and neat in routing the jumper wire between the coil and block, and can affix the tin cap from the electrolock cable to the bottom of the new coil ( black tape) you will hardly know it from original, Be creative,

I agree. Watch ebay for one with the little round eletrolock receptical on top. They fit 1941-1947 Chevrolet.

Hmmm. I've been invited to the Milwaukee Concours d'Elegance Show on August 28, 2016, at Veteran's Park, near the lakefront. One of the Chairpersons on the Board/Committee saw my vehicle at a local car show last summer and told me "This one of the best 'Un-restored Original' Master Deluxes I have seen in a long time." When I think of Mr. Ian Kelleher, President and COO of RM Auctions statement's, "Cars are only original once", I always try to stick to what would be from that era. I will gladly take the advice of the persons here on VCCA. Thank You so much.

There is currently one on EBay advertised as used but the description says appears to be NOS. Search "delco remy coil 1115141". Others do come up on a regular basis.

Gustave, One sure giveaway of a car owned by a non-original enthusistest is when you look under the hood and see the coil has been changed out to some ratty brand or another. Carburator is and another. As for me, if the original type part is available, that is what I want and that is what I get. To H-ll with the cost. You can find them on ebay. Just keep looking. Toss the piece of crap that was sold to you in the trash. Charge it up to experience and lessen learned . Don't go modifying anything. There is no reasonable need to. Best regards, Charlie
