I'm installing the interior in Bearsfan315 29' 4dr. I'm curious on the hardware used to hold the regulator in. Is it the same as a 31', with oval head 1/4x20 screws and depressed steel washers? If so, where can the depressed washers be had?

The depressed washers are normally called finish washers. Larger hardware stores should carry them in the bolt, screw, washer department.

My lowes and home depot carry them, nickel plated about $2-5 for 100 or so. Depending on size, or stainless for same price but pack of 6-8.

No, not the same shape. The ones on my 31' are more of a flat washer with a depression to fit the countersunk head. I have one extra from my car and I'll take a post a few pictures in the photo area. The depression sits better in the wider slot in the regulator board. The slots are 5/16-3/8" and the washer centers itself. The raised chrome finish washers I can get pretty easy in a marine store. I can use them, just not sure which type is correct.

I do have nickel screws on my 31' but not those washers. I'll post a picture. Maybe mine are wrong then or possibly this is what is the replacement now.

I have posted pictures in the member's area to show the washers I have on my 31'. They really allow the screws to be tightened nice and tight to secure the regulator board.

My 32 has the same washers as in ChisTech's photos...When I rebuilt mine, I thought they were odd but re-used them.....

wonder if those are the Factory hardware, and what TFS Offers is a Modern Replacement ??

I have noticed that in working on the 1929 that there is some hardware that is no longer made, or was custom made. so creating or finding an modern alternate is he only way to go.

Then again maybe they changed sometime in the realm between 1929-1932 ?!?

The cupped finish washers that FS supplies are what is original on my 1929. These are available from Home Depot and Lowes as well as most any hardware store. The screws FS supplies look right on the outside but originals were brass nickel plated and have a point on the end.

That's what I'm wondering. Were the washers changed to what Gunsmoke and I have sometime in a specific model year. I know the FS washers are easily available but the washers I've shown I don't see anywhere. The FS type washers will eventually cut through the upholstery if the screws are tightened too tight or left too loose with vibration. With the washers I have, there is no sharp edge on the material, the depression fits into the slot in the board centering the board, and the screws can be tightened securely without fear of material damage. The 29' Coach I recently put the interior in had only one of these style washers and two of the new FS type (one screw was missing). This is what is leading me to believe the type Gunsmoke and I have is probably OEM. I need to do more research though.

Might look to the F**D folks....My Dad used to call the ones I and Chistech have, finish washers....counter sunk washers that a wood screw would fit into.

What about this:
flush washer --- A washer that is like a flat washer except that the center is pressed down into a cone shape to conform to the underside of a countersunk screw and the rim acts to spread the load out a lot more than is the case with a countersunk head alone.

They look very similar to what you have there in your pictures

Other option maybe:
flanged countersunk washer --- A countersunk washer with a flange around the rim to distribute the pressure on the clamped surface more widely

My 29-38 parts book list #121770 C'sunk finish washer in Grp. 10.125 for the screws that hold the windshield regulator board to roof corner bracket for 29-32. In the standard hardware section 121770 is listed as 1/4" Chrome.

I'm starting to wonder if both styles were used. What you found Jerry appears to be what I have in my car. So much thought into such a simple thing.

Yeah could also be a regional/ location thing. based on the factory/ plant that supplied the material and such. just like the type of wood and paint.

My 31' also uses the same type (flat w/depression) washers on the garnish moldings.

Try Restoration Specialties Supply or Restoration Supply Company. Both have all manner of fastener, including the high head bolts and double thickness nuts used on the twenties cars.

Resto Supply has trim washers in SS, nickle or Chrome. I'd use the nickle as it's period correct, and only you will know..... and care.

Good luck. I've got to disassemble my 30 Sedans' and see what I have to do to get the regulator working, pestering forum members for along the way. AN opening windscreen is essential for Thirties coolness.
