Hello everyone....looked for this answer in past posts...either it isn't in there, or I overlooked/missed it. What gauge wire was used in 1950 cars for general wiring....headlights, horns, taillights, dashlights, etc. etc. ( It all looks the same size to me ) I am installing fog lights. What would be correct to install ? Same kind of wiring as found in the wiring harness , ( mine is brown with single " hash" marks on it. ) or was there something different supplied with the fog lights back in the day ? Thanks !

16 gauge wire was used for lighting, heaters, radios, etc.
14 for the lighter and head lights
12 for powering the horn (horn button or ring is only a ground so 16 Ga).
The wire gauge is all listed in the wiring diagram in the shop manual.
The wiring that came with the correct GM Guide fog lights was black and was most accessory wiring.

As far as fog lights go..anybody have any experience installing them ? There are tons listed on ebay......and so many kinds of brackets. Seems there are those you can mount just to the splash ( gravel ) pan, bracket type with clamps that mount to bumper brackets, etc. I think 5" are correct. In lieu of finding an NOS set...haha....probably going with a nice set of new ones, although not perfectly original, will be just fine with me. Can you mount just on splash pan ? Thoughts/comments/criticisms ? Thanks

The Chevrolet lamps mounted on the bumper bracket and a hole was cut in the splash pan with a hole saw. The pan really isn't strong enough to hold the lamps steady.
The instructions are in the 1950 accessory installation manual
5" is the correct size.
Send me your email address and will send installation pictures.

Thanks all. I didn't think just splash pan mounting was good enough. Good to get expert opinions. I do have the 1950 accessories installation manual....very good info. I will keep looking....I might have found brackets and lamps sold separately and they might work very well together. I want to make sure I get the right items. Don't want to 1/2 [bleeped] it . There was a set of NOS ones that sold about a month ago on ebay for $500...missed out on those. They were fabulous !!

If you scroll through this entire page below, you will see info on the fog lights, where to mount, where NOT to mount, etc. A lot of subjects on one thread, the fog lights begin about 1/2 way down the page.

I posted this somewhere else in a thread, but this is a very good image with gauging and color code
