Hi there,

So I'm in the process of getting car ready for the hot summer months coming ahead, 110-115's days, so after buying a new radiator I ended up also buying a repop overflow tank to add more storage capacity to car. Well after looking at instructions I'm at a loss because the instructions are so vague that I really can't see where one of the hoses goes to. I can see one goes to radiator but the other one I'm clueless. Would really appreciate any input on where the other hose goes to or if it just just hangs loose in engine compartment. Thanks again.

I suspect the second hose coming from the overflow tank is just pointed towards the ground. If the overflow tank itself becomes overfilled, the excess coolant has to go somewhere.

Cheers, Dean

Dean,

That's what I was also thinking but did not think of it overflowing the container until you mentioned it. So the middle hose must have a tube run to the top of container so when it reaches that point it starts to kick it out. Any particular place to point hose at? Thanks for the input!

It just drops to below the frame/body mount at the fire wall. Here's a pic from the '51 installation guide...

Marian,

If you overfill the radiator then eventualy you will overfill the tank too. Then the excess has to go somewhere.

On all but Fleetlines the over-flow hoseshould be routed so that it will drip out below the firewall. On Fleetlines it should be routed all the way to just aft of the rear bumper. I know that is a long ways to route it but not impossivle to be done.
You see any mist that the overflow may create on the lower side of the body and frame on a precious Fleetline mar the prestine appearance when viewing this area via mirrors laid on the ground whenever and whereever they are parked. Fleetliners enthousists are a wei.. well, strange bunch. Are too!

BTW: The Fleetliner's driver's releif tube may be routed into this line by way of a suitable sized "tee." Fleetliners are ingenious, as well. dance Agrin

BTW2: I think the Fleetline with the woody effect luv2 automatically comes with the reliff tube and the long line. This is owing to the mist that may curl up, when driving, and settle on all that fine wood-job. Over time, making them hard to be around, expecially in an enclosed environment. You know. Agrin

When an overflow tank is installed you fill the radiator the same as not having a tank. This leaves room in the tank for the expansion of the fulid. If a pressure cap is used a gasket must be installed on the radiator cap so it seals air tight to the filler neck.

You beat me to my next question but any idea on where to get that gasket? Does it have to be cork or rubber? I have the 4 pound cap on.

The gasket was as best I could describe a heavy piece of rubberized paper.

I would guess your running the original style radiator...? Looking at mine I thought I would have to change the filler neck to use a newer higher pressure cap, as the neck seems to be to tall to seat...And make the overflow tank work as intended...

The instructions that camw with a chevrolet over flow tank said to use the "included" gasket if the radiator has a prresure cap.
