I am preparing to paint the steering column mast, steering wheel and shift lever on my 1950 3100 truck. I have reviewed several blog/chat sources and there seems to be some differing opinions on the right color. So far I have found four possibilities: DuPont 8540 or 8540L, SEM15423 (taupe), Rustoleum 7754 (anodized bronze) and Classic Parts has a paint that they say is "just like the original". What color is correct? What have you used? Thanks for any help.

I used none of the above. I took the original radio out and had an automotive paint place match the color to the back of the radio where it was not faded. One could also use the original heater for this. Once we had the correct color and texture,I had the interior painted and had some also put in spray cans for future touch up. The paint code was put on the cans.

The original radio & heater used completely different colors & type of paint than were used on the steering column.

The SEM 15423 Taupe is the closest I have found to the original steering mast color.
In addition... The 3 speed shifting handle along with the steering wheel & horn button were painted the same color as the mast & this color is different from the rest of the interior of the cab. whip
