ello everyone. Would bad wheel bearing on the left front of my 1941 Chevy Master Deluxe, cause difficulty in proper brake shoe adjustment? I followed everything in my 1941 repair manual, and when braking hard, the car pulls to the left. I replaced and repacked the entire right side, but am still waiting for the final bearing, 909701, to arrive so I can replace then entire set. Thanks, Regards Gus...

The nylon wiper control knob on the dash of my 1941 Chevy Master Deluxe broke, so I ordered a new one from a reputable Chevy parts place. The inside of the new knob is bigger than the shaft. I telephoned the parts company to ask if there should be a metal, ribbed grommet on the inside of the knob to take up the space. The old knob did not have such a thing, nor does the new one. The man suggested I glue the new knob to the shaft, but there is a lot of "slop" with the new knob placed on the shaft..Now what should I do? :(

Return the knob. We don't need service like that.

The 1942-1948 knob was removeable. The 1941 knob came attached to the control link.

should be easy to make a spacer of some sort to slip in the knob hole ...then 2 part epoxy it on carefully...the 5 minute epoxy works good. Make a spacer out of some thin plastic or tin can...cut a strip and wind it into the hole ....

I sent you the following PM yesterday. Lots to think about before purchasing my control.
Hi Gustave,
The knob is permanently attached to the assembly so can not be removed. You will have to decide to either wait and see if the Filling Stations knob fits on your control or decide that you will unscrew the damaged control from the dash. This is not easy because of what is hindering you from accessing the part. It could mean removing the radio if you have one, defroster hoses, and for sure the wiper motor. Depending on how large a man you are you might even have to remove your front seat and the frame where it rests.
You will also have to carefully reinstall the wiper motor to make sure it lines up with the control. I can send you a picture of the correct alignment.
If you wish to purchase my part I will sell it to you for $30.00 plus shipping. I am in no hurry for an answer.
Good luck, Mike
PS ebay has 3 controls listed for sale. They range in price fro $12.50 to $95. _________________________ Mike 41/77 Chevys

Hello Mike, I will wait to see what the Filling Station replacement control knob looks like. Right now, Imhave another problem of high beams keep burning out and my low beams are extremely bright. I am thing stuck voltage regulator? Or improper generator voltage. Car is all original with no 6-12 volt conversion of ANY kind. My 1941 shop manual gives examples on how to address this situation. 1941 Master Deluxe. Ffgus....

Hello all. 1941 Master Deluxe, all original, 6 volt system. My low beam headlamps are too bright and my high beams keep blowing out. I have the 1941 Chevy manual that gives instructions on how to adjust the voltage and amps on the voltage regulator. I personally find it a bit confusing mainly cuz all I have is a Sears Craftsman digital voltmeter and ammeter. The book talks about an ammeter and voltage tester with a gain adjustment. I don't think this piece of equipment no longer exists, no needed...Any suggestions? Do I first start by testing the receiving voltage at the battery posts?

The voltage is set too high in the voltage regulator. What it written as far as adjusting voltage setting in the shop manual MAY be incorrect if the voltage regulator has been replaced with a new one in the last 50 years. It could also cause the points to burn also.

Is there a some what easier way to adjust the voltage regulator than what the shop manual states? I have no records as to when, if at all, the regulator has even been replaced. As I stated all I have is a digital ammeter/voltmeter. The manual talks about bending the spring hanger up or down to get a secure reading of 4.5-5 volts with the car at operating temp.

The correct setting is 7.4 volts. If you can get it near there it will be an improvement.....with engine at a fast idle.

Hi Gustave,
I don't know if you realize that you are making new "replies" and changing the "topic title" with your replies. Then when someone responds to ANY of your previous posts, it picks up the topic title and uses it in the time sequence of when it's posted, that's why you see a jumble of postings and responses. It still ONE thread, but with modified titles.
You should select the NEW TOPIC heading for each new topic you want to discuss. Please don't change your topic by clicking on the reply button and changing the reply topic heading from brake drums, to wiper knobs, to head lamps.
Thanks, Mike
