Have an interesting conundrum.........I purchased a 35 std phaeton , fully done car. Problem is at 6' 3" its real tight for me on drivers side and difficult to get to brake pedal.

I need that front seat to move back 5--8", its not designed to move. The seat is tied into the B pillar as a unit and the doors are extremely solid when closing. Do not want to take the solid closing feature and possibly weaken it.

Car doesn't arrive here until late july early august.

Does anybody have any pictures they can share with me with just the bare seat frame exposing any bracketry involved ??????

contact me at mike350@rogers.com

thank you very much

This is the street rod I think?

If so, don't panic or overthink yet.

Most rods end up with a trans tunnel that does interfere with good gas pedal function. Gets even trickier with a standard shift taking more room for a clutch pedal.

I'd wait till it gets there to see if:
-maybe the builder made the sides of the tunnel way too big. The tunnel could be modified and get a new carpet made, after relocating the gas pedal

-the type of brake pedal pad may be too wide and forces the gas pedal to be in a bad spot.

-the seat springs can be modified to move your butt lower to the floor....and perhaps further back, Then an interior guy may be able to save and modify the seat cover.

I fussed a good while, with my 32 Ford cabriolet rod with 3 pedals, a tight fitting tunnel, and a 31 Cad V12 seat that has an adjuster. My son is at least 6-2, and I'm shorter...but finally got it nice my doing what I mentioned about pedals and pads, etc

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Its a 305 SBC TPI with 350th. Xke suspension front and rear all plated. There is no trans tunnel and its a column shift. I could not get in thru drivers door and had to enter thru pass side and smooch across. 6'-3" and 245--250 its a tight fit even with tilt column. Problem stems from height of brake pedal with round pad..lokar ? Should be able to adjust pedal rod length underneath and take up any slack.

I sat in a friends 35 restored roadster in Knoxville area in dec and same problem with stock seat, too high and knees 2" away from dash panel. Like being on a go cart seating wise.

In order to move the seat back the 5--8" as I did with my 35 std 3 w coupe, to make driving the car comfortable. The stock front seat in tub is tied into the B posts to really strengthen the body structure. The doors close perfectly and have a nice Chevrolet thunk to them.

What I need to see is some pictures of a 34-35 touring under restoration non upholstered . If I cannot talk to somebody with pictures, I will have wife drive me around and start exploring this winter by opening up the upholstery ( tan leather ) in one side to see how its constructed and how to alter it to get more people room.

I also have a 35 chev roadster std series under construction where I will have to deal with the same problem. I have already altered the top holding area to 6" wide from the 12" stock.

My friend and associate vcca chat member 35pete came up with a perfect set of 4 pictures of a 34 touring under construction .

It show me exactly what I need to know about the original construction and what will be involved in moving the seat rearward 5"---8" .

A slam dunk

thanks EARL
