I would like to know the bearing number of the steering gear box bearings for the 1931 Chevrolet. the Timken 6 race is identified but the bearing is not. I know the filing Station sells them but I can order them locally cheaper. I need to know the bearing number, or size. Thanks.

I have no idea how you know they are cheaper locally if you don't have a number but most good bearing suppliers should be able to identify the proper bearing working with the race number and shaft dimensions. Do you have the old parts out? Sometimes cheaper cost more and with steering parts it's important to have the right parts.

The Timken race was $% each less expensive. Timken did not offer a part number/ cup number for the size bearing I showed him and he was stumped. If I ad a cup/bearing number to give him maybe his search engine from Timken will show up something. Or a cross reference to a different MFG. The shaft dia did not help. If anyone knows the bearing number or cross reference number to a different MFG.that would be helpful. Thanks!

I'll see what I can find. The Chevrolet numbers are 259782 and 259783. The 259782 is a #6-A cup and fits 31-40. Still digging on the roller thrust bearing. Do you have an inner measurement?

I think you may have solved a mystery of why in the part stash I have there was a large quantity of number 6 Timken cups and number 5-BA C&R Assy (roller Bearings). He also had a large number of sector shafts and other steering box components. If you would like to try these or need more info or pictures let me know. I will sell the brand new Timken 6 cup and 5 BA, still in sealed boxes, for $20 a pair plus postage.
