as most of you know my car, 1929 Chevrolet 4 Door, is up In Mass with Ted [Chistech]. he is doing some structural work as well as the roof and interior. While it is away i was to be reworking the Drivetrain. Pull the engine & Transmission, strip down, clean up paint, put on rebuilt Rocker Arm Assemblies, new push rods, caps, etc...

Well i finally got around to working on it, yeah been about 6 months.

Started blasting some parts, priming and then painting.

Round one was the pedals:
Pedal 01
Pedal 02
Pedal 03
Pedal Primed 01

doing 2 coats of primer, then 2 top coats of Gloss Black

You're going to have a nice big puzzle to put back together when the car gets back down to you. Looking good on both ends.

Question:
Should the Screw on end of the Starter Pedal been Bare Metal, or should it get Primed & Painted as well ?? Seems to be different material vs the rod and hardware.
Prime & Paint or Bare Metal
I know there is a rubber bootie that goes over it

The starter pedal was painted white with black grooves to form a bullseye effect.

Mine appears to be aluminum. I couldn't see any paint on the aluminum, but the steel parts have black paint.
Just curious what kind of primer are you using. I have some parts bead blasted and I am wondering if Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer would be ok.

The starter pedal button is aluminum and it is painted as described above.

I only use Rustoleum on garbage cans and wheelbarrows.

Probably the Standard coupe would be the same.
The Rustoleum was recommended by AutoZone, however I am considering the POR-15 from FS. I know there has been discussion on this subject previously.

Rustoleum spray valves are often defective and the propellant usually runs out before the can is empty. Krylon is a much better product.

I always use a self etching primer. My painter told me it's the only primer to use.

The starter pedal was the same for all vehicles in 1930.

I rate POR-15 right down at the bottom of the list along with Rustoleum.

Would the white and black bulls eye pattern be the same in 1929?
What paint do you recommend?
Thanks, Pete

Well I am using the Rustoleum Professional
PROFESSIONAL Primer Spray
PROFESSIONAL High Performance Enamel Spray

It is more expensive than the cheap Standard Rustoleum BUT the NOZZLE is a MILLION times better, sprays out even, and continuous, can spray upside down, sideways, and inside out. Goes on great, and seams to be very durable and worthy. Been using it for years now with no complaints, and beat the hell out of other things i have primed & painted with it. But follow the instructions on how to Top Coat and timing !! I blast all my parts, then clean them to remove any residue, oil, etc. I wear Gloves so no oil from my skin gets on the parts. then prime, wait 45 minutes, prime, wait 45 minutes, then top coat, wait 30 minutes, top coat. then let parts sit and cure for 48 hours before handling. Man they look good :)

Every can of the Pro i have use so far Paint last until there is NOTHING in the can, and does not Sputter or Spit paint everywhere. also very comfortable nozzle as well. Paint runs out before the Propellant every time so far.

Time will tell...
I am sure there is better out there, there always is !!

this would be the raised portion white, the recess grooves black ??

and would the entire aluminum piece be white ?? other than the grooves, or just he face of the pedal

based on this i assume the rubber cover was NOT standard on the 1929

The entire starter pedal was painted white, and as mentioned above, the grooves were painted black.

Nothing like a good machine to blast with. Your wheels, rims, lugs, and clips are on the way to the painter today. Roofing material goes on tomorrow. Moving along and will be coming home soon!
