OK I have a set of wing windows but something does not work. I looked at Bill Barkers pictures and I have the correct hardware but I do not understand how the top piece locks to the top of the window opening unless there is a missing part. I am talking about the set screw end. It looks to me like there should be another piece that goes in the window opening channel and the set screw locks into it. How about it who can solve this mystery?

Yes, there is another piece that mounts on the top. I don't think that I can put my hands on one right away... everything is still packed from when we moved here last year...

But my garage is almost done now and I'll be unpacking around Christmas!!

Sometimes my camera is turned on and you can see my new garage being built at
HERE

 :cool2:

Does someone else have a picture of the top piece?

Hey Matt! Yes, you are missing two pieces (one per side). As you know, on the top bracket there is a long threaded stud to adjust the tension of the draft deflectors against the window channels. The stud has a rounded end. That rounded end fits into a raised mating socket on a goofy looking part that is shaped sort of like a small piece of channel iron, but one side is curved. That piece goes up into the window channel on the outside edge, and then the threaded stud is used to adjust the tension to hold the draft deflectors into the window channels to keep them in place. As I remember, the set of draft deflectors that you bought on eBay were missing these little pieces. Without them, you cannot install the draft deflectors. :( :( :( :(

JYD, I am going to look at it on the bright side. I have a good start on my wind wings. That being said does anyone know where a pair of the upper pieces are or even one I could copy? At this point the condition does not matter.

You can probably design and make something that will work using a mill. Those two pieces were chrome plated as well. laugh laugh laugh laugh

well, tonight I'm da TIRED man.....

I spent all day with the three carpenters... dang.. they work their asses off!! I am bone tired.... and you know what? When they left here at 6 pm (well after dark), they still had to drive 2.5 hours to get home!!!

Sure glad that I'm a desk jockey! laugh If I had to do this everyday, I'd lose too much weight and then I'd have to buy a bunch of new clothes!

I'll try to take a look tomorrow and see if I can find those brakets... by the way I also bought a repro set from I&I a few years ago... just a thought.....

Hey Bill, I clicked on your web site 'current' and it was dark, all I saw were some guys hauling your stuff away, the head guy was dressed in red and had a whole gang of little people working for him. He got away in an early red w/black fenders Chevy open sledge with about 10 rp (reindeer power not horse power). auto auto :cool2:

Hey Billy Boy! Why don't you have a flood light on your garage at night so it will make things easier for the dudes to "acquire" all of your stuff instead of probing around in the dark? Also, with everything lit up at night your "roofcam" can get great photos of the guys stealing your goodies!  :( wink laugh laugh

Hey Billy Boy BaRRker!... a very smart thing to do, you can sit in the office looking like you are working and watch what ever is going on at your house. I may get with you to see what it would cost to set me up with one of those Spys in the Sky jobs! I could use it down at the lake place to watch my Tomater patch next spring.
....Oh sorry, I don't have a wing ding, just a big 'ole tomater and onion patch.

Matt,
I had a friend take pictures of the repro top bracket. I e-mailed them to you. Maybe you can put them on this site for others to see. I'm not too good at sending things this is a first on pictures.

Bill, are the wind wings (draft def.) for 1932 that you show on the link, are they Chevy asseccories or after market accessory?

I have been told that the open '32 cars didn't have Chevy accessory wind wings.

If the 'wings' aren't Chevy, do you lose points for having them? :(

They are genuine Chevrolet accessories as stated earlier. The roadster and the phaeton did have wind wings and they were a genuine Chevrolet accessory as well. laugh laugh laugh

Points are deducted for all aftermarket accessories.  laugh
