Hello to all,
I know this is the subject of a lot of discussion but I would welcome opinions on whether I should replace the 216 in my 1950 1/2T truck with a 235. If so why. If I do change to a 235 what modifications do I have to make to the rest of the drive train or anywhere else. Again thanks for everyone's help.

Hi Jon,

Ultimately, it depends on what you want from your truck. Originality, mild upgrade, easy cruising on the freeway, added performance, something else? I suggest you do a bunch of research and make up your mind before doing anything to the truck.

The 216 is fine . If you want to drive at over 55 MPH for long distances install a 3.55 ring gear and pinion. Then 65 MPH is comfortable. At any speed the engine will bw much louder in the truck cab due to less sound proffing and cloth material in the small cab.(compared to a car) also the larger fan blade.
The 3.55 gears will work well wiith the 235 engine, making up for the low speed power loss of the 3.55 gears.
When installing a 235 depending on year and what it was from drilling ot the front mounting plate holes, water pump modification kit -, and some small exhaust modifications will be necessary. The 235 would need to be complete with carburetor, manifolds, etc.
